Process incoming gift book collections with full bibliographic listing, check existing holdings for best copy, check out-of-print resources for book values, serve at the reference desk, assist with special events, mailings, check out-of-print dealer catalogs for possible acquisitions.PTEmust be detail oriented and pay attention to details of publication for best copy comparisons. After training in all areas of Special Collections, serve on the reference desk for one to two shifts of two hours per week. Able to work Monday through Friday during the hours of 8-5 and two Saturdays per semester (10-6) and assist with special events held during the evening.
After training, able to work with moderate supervision, serve on the reference desk, assist with mailings for special events, assist Associate Dean when Program Manager is not available. Able to lift up to 40 lbs when picking up or moving donor collections. See above.
Six months clerical or customer service experience required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Knowledge of research techniques, bibliographic listing format, familiar with out of print research sources. Familiar with Western U. S. and Utah history.
Special Instructions Summary
Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled in 6 undergraduate credits or 5 graduate credits during the fall and spring semesters.
