Myriad Genetics, Inc. Patient Advocate - Prolaris Team in Salt Lake City, Utah

The primary responsibility of the Tissue Patient Advocate is to act as a liaison between the health care provider, the pathologist and the laboratory in order to obtain patient samples. Patient Advocates are responsible for coordinating tissue testing for patients. This is accomplished by working with health care providers to complete the required documentation and sample submission and then will work with insurance companies to secure the highest possible coverage for patients. To be successful, the Patient Advocate must be detail oriented and must act in compliance with agency, department, and company regulations, policies and procedures. This individual should focus 90% of their time in direct communication with health care providers and their staff, insurance companies, and patients, with the remainder being spent on administrative tasks.

Responsible for coordinating testing services for patients by:

  • Reviewing test request forms and additional documentation submitted with a patient specimen to ensure accurate and timely testing.

  • Working with health care providers to complete the required documentation and sample submission.

  • Reaching out to pathologist to obtain the patient’s tissue sample.

  • Working with insurance companies to secure the highest possible coverage for patients.

  • Communicating with patients to explain insurance coverage benefits and test information including process and turnaround time.

  • Employee will be on the phone approximately 60-80% of the time.

  • Participate in the Quality Assurance plan.

  • Comply with applicable CLIA and HIPAA regulations.

  • Fluent in Spanish is preferred/encouraged

  • Professional and detail-oriented

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Accurate typing skills of at least 35 WPM

  • Excellent listening, transcribing and self-review skills, PC experiences, including Excel, Word, Internet and email

  • Ability to multi-task

  • One year of customer service or medical reimbursement experience required

  • Preference given to applicants with a Bachelor Degree or more than one year of

  • customer service or medical reimbursement experience.
